The Brower Quadrant: The True Wealth Phenomenon
Maximizing Money & Meaning in Your Life

by Lee M. Brower

Part I – Discovering the Quadrants

Chapter 1 Do You Recidivate?
Have you been highly motivated to create a new future for yourself only to watch your motivation dissipate before you reach your destination? Then–you recidivate. How do we create lasting change? We employ a system that supports it, and the vocabulary necessary to sustain it.
In this chapter, Lee describes the childhood experience that exposed him to the Law of Attraction, and led him to be interviewed for the successful movie and book “The Secret.” It explores other universal laws as well, including the power of our thoughts, as it sets the course for the rest of the book where readers will discover how clarity leads to balance and focus, which results in confidence–an anti-recidivism system for lasting change.

Chapter 2 What’s A Guy Like You Worth
Lee’s work as an advisor to the affluent inspires him to ask the question, “What is my stewardship responsibility to wealth?” By asking this, and other “new” questions, Lee realizes the Brower Quadrant system is of value to not only the very wealthy, but to all who have hit the “ceiling of complexity” when it comes to traditional estate planning, and the creation and transference of wealth. Imagine a structure, either formal or informal, that encourages the deposit and withdrawal of all of a family’s assets, not just the financial assets. In this chapter, we come to understand that our true value goes far beyond economic resources.

Chapter 3 Money Talks, But Meaning Whispers
Money talks, but does it tell the truth? Is it possible that by overemphasizing the importance of money, we sacrifice meaning? This doesn’t have to be the case. Lee takes a look at the world around us, and the state of an average family, finding a void in leadership at all levels. We discover that most of us share the same 3 greatest fears as Lee’s wealthiest clients. He suggests part of the solution is to begin with leadership in the home, and understanding the difference between True and False Wealth.

Chapter 4 The Brower Quadrant
This chapter introduces the Brower Quadrant concept, from its humble beginnings through its organic evolution into a comprehensive system of protecting and empowering the true wealth of an individual, family, or institution.

Part II – Understanding the Quadrants
The four Brower quadrants are discussed in detail in the following chapters:

Chapter 4 Core Assets
Core assets are defined as family, health, spirituality, happiness, ethics, values, unique ability, relationships, and heritage.

Chapter 5 Experience Assets
Experience assets consist of wisdom, formal education, life’s experiences (good and bad), systems, ideas, traditions, alliances skills, talents, heritage.

Chapter 6 Contribution Assets
Contribution assets include taxes, private foundations, charitable contributions of financial assets, as well as contributions of Core and Experiences assets.

Chapter 7 Financial Assets
Financial assets consist of cash, stocks and bonds, retirement plan, businesses, real esate, and other things (your financial and material posessions).

Part III – The Practice of Quadrant Living

Chapter 8 Creating Clarity
This chapter examines how time is affected by the many hats we wear in our daily lives, and offers a method of prioritizing according to the information we glean from cataloging our quadrant assets. How do we become more proactive so that we feel in control of our time, our emotions, and our lives? Lee introduces us to the 3-Step Brower Quadrant Clarity Experience, and assists us in creating a Quadrant Vision Statement.

Chapter 9 Gratitude Rocks!
Gratitude Rocks! describes the importance of a positive focus, and how it can transform the culture of our work and family. He introduces a powerful tool toward this end called “ECHOing.” ECHO is an acronym for Experience Capture Hastens Optimization. This chapter offers examples of how this concept works, allowing us to release negativity and capitalize on our experience assets.

Chapter 10 The Brittle Generation
We meet the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers to explore what happens to families that create great wealth? All too often, wealth disappears with the third generation – the “brittle” generation. This chapter explores why this is so, and what can be done to change it. We are given an opportunity to look at the Five Stages of Wealth–Striving, Driving, Thriving, Arriving, and Diving–and assess where we are, and where we would like to be, on this continuum. Lee has discovered that without proper intervention in stage four, our wealth is certain to disappear. How we address this issue depends on what drives us, what motivates us. We observe one example, the Scarlatti Family, as it looks at its collective assets, and examines what drives them – individually and jointly.

Chapter 11 Estate Planning Vs. Family Leadership
Lee shares his extensive experience in financial planning in revealing what traditional estate planning doesn’t do. We learn the pitfalls of passing along wealth without passing along values, and consider examples of the Quadrant Living approach to leaving a legacy of significance.
We observe the travails of a wealthy family, and learn how we can avoid similar difficulties. Changes in the financial services industry are discussed, as well as Lee’s expectations of that industry’s future. What should we look for in a financial advisor? Lee gives us an insightful insider’s view.

Chapter 12 The Family Empowered Quadrant-Bank
We learn about the Family Empowered Quadrant Bank – the “Qbank” – a vehicle for holding your family’s most treasured assets, financial and otherwise, in trust for future generations. What does your family stand for? Exercises in this chapter will help you craft and clarify a family philosophy. Perhaps you will create your own Quadrant coat-of-arms? How can you determine and “capture” your individual and joint values to create a map of where you are as a family, and where you want to go? This chapter presents a series of questions that will help you answer these questions, allowing you to get proactive–setting the course for your lives instead of living in a state of drift. It includes 6 questions that will help you make decisions about how you use your precious time, and gives examples of families using these techniques. Creating your own Q-bank can preserve your family’s sense of mutual obligation and connection by maintaining a sense of interdependence. This chapter shows you how and why.

Chapter 12 Goodbye Goals
Chapter 12 takes a new look at the traditional standard of goal-setting, and examines the true purpose of goals. Lee explains the dangers of improper goal-setting, and includes guidelines for getting into motion, and moving toward your vision. We are introduced to The Pringle Theory, in which one small step leads to another–no leaping required. What obstructions prevent your personal progress? This chapter will help you understand the value of vision versus goals, discern your most important and essential tasks, and set you on a path of Predictable Results.

Chapter 13 Who Owns Your Future?
This chapter asks the question: Is your future an asset or a liability? Lee answers it with the Seven Steps of Quadrant Motion: Rock It, Think It, See It, Move It, Be It, ECHO It (Experience Capture Hastens Optimization), and Shift It. Does balance mean spending equal amounts of time with each quadrant? Included here are suggestions of how we can stay in touch with the quadrants on a daily basis, and elaborates on the ECHO concept,

Chapter 14 Leadership
Chapter 14 describes how we make connections across seemingly unbridgeable gaps. It is possible to build a “mental bridge” that crosses over the unproductive Valley of Hope and Despair, and build on that bridge a road of Predictable Results. It requires leadership ability. We explore the difference between management and leadership, and learn how to employ the 5 C’s of Leadership: clarity, consciousness, consistency, courage, and compassion.
