PROVENANCE

Recently, in conversation with a very interesting and very successful entrepreneur, I inquired if she were capturing the amazing experiences she was already having in her still quite young life. She said she didn't have time! She had started writing a journal but had not kept it up. We must learn that for something to have value… we must capture it first… then we can give it life by giving it away! I challenged her to write one sentence a day in her journal. Just one sentence, anybody can do that. Right? Well, you have to be committed to do anything long term. When you are committed you will do it no matter what. Well, by setting the goal of doing just one sentence, she could even drag herself out of bed after a long tough tiring day to honor her commitment because – it is only one sentence.
But what happens most nights when you sit down to write one sentence? You write one paragraph and then another and some days you will even write pages. The challenge isn't the writing. The challenge is just opening the book. And those pages become the testament of your incredibly significant provenance. I challenge each of you to begin today. Find a book with blank paper and if you will commit with integrity to write at least one sentence per day, it won't be long before you have a book… then several books that will be priceless to you and those that follow. And as you take the time to appreciate the value of your experiences, you will be a direct beneficiary of your own provenance.
